We are happy to announce the addition of 2 more teams to the Utah Rugby League Association. The Glendale Storm and the Provo Broncos are now officially part of the URLA and PCRL. The first set of official games for the URLA 2023 season will begin July 1, 2023. The full schedule of games will be announced here on our site soon.
The PCRLA made an announcement on Twitter regarding the addition of the two new teams. The announcement read the following:
Pacific Coast Rugby League’s Utah conference, under the leadership of the Utah Rugby League Association (URLA) has officially doubled in size with the addition of two new clubs: the Provo Broncos, and the Glendale Storm.
These clubs mark the next step in the excellent work being done in Utah, with youth rugby league for boys and girls also being launched earlier this month.
To begin with, both clubs will add men’s teams to the Utah conference, joining the Riverton Seagulls and the Herriman Roosters to make a four team league competing for the Hopoate Cup – named for sponsor and patrons the Hopoate family – a name synonymous with elite rugby league.
“I am thrilled to announce the addition of Glendale Storm and Provo Broncos to Pacific Coast Rugby League! A warm thank you to the Utah Rugby League Association for their unwavering support. With the inclusion of these teams, our competition now boasts 8 formidable contenders. Together, we will continue our efforts to expand, grow, and foster even more fierce competition, driving our players towards USA National team honors. Exciting times lie ahead for rugby league in our region!” said PCRL president Ady Cooney.
URLA head George Tupou added, “We are really excited with the growth of rugby league here in Utah. We are looking forward to having the Provo Broncos and Glendale Storm joining URLA and playing under the umbrella of PCRL and being an affiliated member of USARL. Exciting times for rugby league here in the US!”
The schedule for the Hopoate Cup will be announced shortly, with the winners to face the California champions on August 12 for the chance to take on USARL South in the National Championship on August 26.
The additions make PCRL the largest rugby league competition in the USA, with eight men’s teams, two women’s teams, and junior teams in Utah.
